Barbara Stillwell - Soper

It is with both heavy and grateful hearts that we celebrate the remarkable life of Barbara Jean Stillwell – Soper, who passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at the age of 81.

Barbara was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved parents and her precious daughter, Cheryl Denise, who undoubtedly greeted her with open arms.

She leaves behind the love of her life and devoted husband, James “Jim” Soper; her cherished sons, Brian (Cathy) Stillwell and Greg Stillwell; her treasured grandchildren, Kristen (Andrew) and Eric (Crissie); and one of her greatest blessings, her beautiful great granddaughter, Serena Evelyn, whom Barbara was fortunate enough to meet, hold, and love.

A proud McCoy from the hills of Kentucky, Barbara was everything you would expect from a fiery redhead. She was small in stature but mighty in spirit – strong-willed, fearless, and wonderfully unapologetic. Barbara never hesitated to speak her mind, and you never had to wonder where you stood with her. Those that knew her appreciated that honesty more than words can express.

Barbara never met an adventure she wasn’t willing to try. Whether traveling the world with Jim, cruising the open seas (over and over and over), exploring museums, standing beneath the Eiffel Tower, sitting in the cockpit of a Blue Angels jet, catching fish, or simply sharing laughter with family, Barbara approached every moment with curiosity, excitement, and joy. She found happiness in both life’s grand adventure and its quiet everyday moments. She believed in making her own path, living life on her own terms, and embracing every opportunity that came her way.

Her laugh was contagious, her smile unforgettable, and her determination inspiring. She lived boldly, loved deeply, and left an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Although our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in the countless memories she created and the incredible life she lived. Her legacy lives on not only through her beloved family, but also through the laughter, strength, honesty, resilience, and adventurous spirit she shared so freely with everyone around her.

If Barbara taught us anything, it was to say what you mean, laugh often, love your family fiercely, and never let anyone tell you how to live your life. We can almost hear her telling us not to spend too much time crying, but instead to share a story, enjoy a laugh, and keep making memories together. That is exactly how she would want to be remembered – and exactly how we will celebrate her life.
