Gloria Lewis

Gloria Lewis was born in New York City on July 27, 1938, to Francisco and Margarita Marrero. Her father passed away in World War II and her mother remarried. The family moved to Long Island where she grew up the middle child of five girls.

Gloria married Rex See in 1958 and had two daughters. They moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1974, and the couple divorced a few years later. Gloria was remarried to Nicholas (Nick) Lewis who passed away in 1998. Her younger daughter, Suzanne Robyn See, also passed away in 1998 leaving three children. Gloria is survived by her older daughter, Tammy Hayes, three grandchildren—Donald See, Christopher See, and Barbara Foss—and five great grandchildren who all still live in Florida, along with her youngest sister, Francis Sheehan who resides in North Carolina.

For most of her life, Gloria was a homemaker. She taught Catechism and was a volunteer dispatcher for the local ambulance service when her daughters were young. After they moved to Florida, she worked at a department store and became a bridal consultant. During her retirement, she belonged to Ladies of the Elks in Ocala where she lived with Nick. The couple also traveled taking road trips, including one across the country, going on cruises, and touring England once. After Nick passed away, Gloria moved to Tampa to be closer to her family. She was active in several groups through the local senior center, including Kats 9 and the Red Hatters, that kept her busy for a number of years.

Gloria was an avid baseball fan throughout her life, watching and going to Tampa Bay Rays games as often as possible. She liked cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, reading, music, and old movies. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren in her later years. They all called her “Abuelita.” Gloria Lewis passed away at Palm Garden of Tampa nursing home on January 30, 2026. May she rest in peace.
