Harold F. Pickerill, Jr.

Harold F. Pickerill, Jr. passed away on May 10th, 2026 at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

Harold was born on December 1, 1942 in Elgin, Illinois to Harold F. and Margaret L. (Chandler) Pickerill, Sr.

He married Betty L. Neff on June 26, 1965 at the First Methodist Church in McHenry, Illinois.

Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. He worked 17 years at Northern Illinois Gas in the service department. He then worked at Hicks Gas in Woodstock for 17 years where he became the manager.

Harold taught himself to play the guitar at 13 years of age. He enjoyed entertaining his family and friends with his music. He played in the McHenry, Illinois area under the stage name of "Just Harold." He loved riding his motorcycle, fishing, and gardening. Harold always had a "project" going.

He is survived by his wife Betty, and beloved sons, Shane D. Pickerill & Scott J. Pickerill; sisters in law: Karen Szewczuk, Joanne (Ronald) Kamp, Sandra Neff; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Margaret Pickerill, sister Beverly Johnson, niece Kathie Johnson, and nephew Timothy Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW in New Port Richey, Florida on May 31st. A second Celebration of Life will be held this summer for family and friends in Illinois.
